First Lady Julia I. Covington

First Lady Julia I. Covington, a native of Newark, N.J., is the wife of Pastor William A. Covington, the senior pastor of Grace Cathedral Church. They have been married for 42 years, and together have raised two daughters, one of whom is now deceased. First Lady Julia is a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to four grandchildren. She has worked for 41 years in the field of information technology, serving now as a senior project manager.

First Lady Julia was born into a family of talented singers, musicians and preachers. She accepted the Lord as her Savior at the age of 12 and has spent her life in service to the Lord in many different capacities. For more than 24 years, she served as choir director at her former church, as well as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader and member of the Drama Guild. She served on the district level as choir director and on the diocesan level as youth president and assistant choir director for the Washington/Maryland Diocese of the Bibleway World Wide Organization, where she led the song ”Don’t Lose Your Soul” during their 1993 CD recording.

After the death of her youngest daughter, who was the first African American to be diagnosed with a rare disease called xeroderma pigmentosum, she began serving in foreign missions.

Julia is an ordained elder and serves alongside her husband on the praise team and the director of the women’s department, where their motto is “Women Equipping Women.” She leads a challenging and dynamic monthly women’s fellowship where practical application of God’s word is demonstrated.

She loves the Lord with all her heart and seeks to please Him in every way. Her favorite scripture is Nahum 1:7.
